Mysql support in linux

Hello All, I am having trouble getting mysql support to work on apache. When I try to establish connection using mysql_connect() I get a call to unfdefined function error. I made sure to compile php using the --with-mysql option and the output of phpinfo() shows '--with-mysql=shared' as part of the configure command listing. However, I still get this error. Can anybody give me a clue how to get mysql connectivity working? Thanks, Glen
