The patch might have been automatically unzipped by your browser (my
Mozilla does it), so remove the extension and go on. To check this, the
content of your patch file should start with something like this:
diff -ru php-4.2.1/NEWS php-4.2.2/NEWS
--- php-4.2.1/NEWS Sun May 12 23:07:40 2002
+++ php-4.2.2/NEWS Sat Jul 20 21:20:20 2002
In this case, simply remove the extension.
Now, cp php-4.2.1-to-php-4.2.2.patch to the directory which contains your
php-4.2.1 source tree (where you see php-4.2.1 in your ls) and type
patch -p0 < ./php-4.2.1-to-php-4.2.2.patch
Anyway, 'man patch' should solve some more problems...
Bye
