Installing PHP

Greetings all, I'm in the process of trying to install php4.0.3.pl1 with apache 1.3.14 and I'm going nuts trying to get them working. Where can i find information to help me get this working? The php.net web site steps have been followed, as have the one in the INSTALL files for BOTH php and apache. Any help would be apprecieated. Here's the tech: OS: BSDi 4.1 Apache: 1.3.14 (source) PHP: 4.0.3.pl1 Additional Modules: mod_ssl w/openssl mod_perl Additional programs: mysql (linked in via php, using path) My problems: I haved tried compiling them as a static module, and get a cannot fing libphp4.a, and while I expect apache to build it, the configure program just sits there, doing nothing (waited over 4 hours before killing it). I tried compiling it as a shared module, and all compiles good. When I go to RUN apache, it tells me that is cannot find the file (see c&P message below). I've tried it with the entire path to the module, and with just the short form. The file exists.
