Install Problems (win2000, PNP4.2.3)

On the subject installation I followed the instructions for installing but I still can get php scripts to execute. Using IE 6.0 I execute http:\\machine name I get the information in the default htm but do not get the php code interpreted. Any help will be appreciated.
