Hello,
I finally decided to try out PHP 4.2.3, but I use PostgreSQL, not MySQL, so it appeared as though I needed to download the source and build a nice new PHP. "Why not ?", I thought. I'm on Mac OS X v 10.1.5, Darwin 5.5 and Python, PostgreSQL, Perl, Expat and so many others have been dead easy, just a ./configure, make, and "sudo make install" away. The dark days of "flat namespace" related, etc. meltdowns & migraines have (mostly) past. So, why does the following still happen ?
My system: .
*** Warning: This library needs some functionality provided by -lpq.
*** I have the capability to make that library automatically link in when
*** you link to this library. But I can only do this if you have a
*** shared version of the library, which you do not appear to have.

*** or is declared to -dlopen it.

/usr/bin/libtool: internal link edit command failed
make[1]: *** [libphp4.la] Error 1

Any help would be much appreciated. I have to admit this is pretty surprising. I just wasted hours trying to get it to build and some time searching for answers on the infobahn - no joy, though there is much mention of the bug. Maybe I'll give another shot or two, then scratch the notion of using PHP. Perhaps PHP isn't ready for OS X prime time yet. I hope this gets fixed soon, especially since most other projects have dealt with initial OS X/Darwin problems.
Anyway, like I said any help would be greatly appreciated.
<http://www.php.net/manual/en/install.macosx.php> isn't any help.
