missing mod_so.c (fwd)

I am having a difficult time believing that nobody knows how to do this. I have gotten absolutely no feedback. Any ideas/alternatives? I dare not proceed for that reason. INSTALL doesn't tell how to get it installed. I actually have a copy of mod_so.c in the source of my version of apache. I would strongly prefer to not reinstall Apache because I have Mailman that depends on Apache and I can't afford the risk of breaking my mailing list.
