undefined function: mime_content_type() ??

Hi: when I try implementing a tutorial program for learning how to store images in a database and try to call the function mime_content_type I get the following error message: Fatal error: Call to undefined function: mime_content_type() in G:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache2\htdocs\BruceGang\insert.php on line 80 when I checked the PHP documentation I read that this function is only available in the PHP 4 CVS. Being new to PHP, I don't know what this means. I also read that "The behaviour of these functions is affected by settings in php.ini" Can someone help me to get this function working?
