Fair argument, "right thing" is a matter of perspective and opinion of
course.
What I'd encourage you to consider is "right thing" for the project trying
to maintain relevance & hopefully grow, vs "right thing" of a social
statement that may or may not represent the opinions of all people involved
in said project.
