Yep that was exactly the reason. We've had these feature freezes in the past and we will branch off after RC1 to allow commiting to HEAD (sans core due to Unicode merge). So it's really minimal time (2-3 weeks) which we need to stabilize the version. It's definitely worth it in order to get the version out of the door. Andi
