Here's a start... Fire up apache with the -X option using gdb and then when it crashes run "backtrace" or "bt" at the gdb prompt. That'll show you where it is crashing in the source code. From there, you can make an somewhat educated guess at what code is at fault. See: http://bugs.php.net/bugs-generating-backtrace.php Tracking down the actual source of your problem will be a bit more inovled. There are a few decent gdb tutorials online that'll get you started.
