I didn't know how many applications use [] with strings. I only know a lot of applications using {}. The point is not "breaking existing apps", but destroy a sensable convention, which is used a lot, and which is quite useful to increase readability of code as described in my other postings. I have no problem with changing my code if BC breaks, but in this case I'd be sad to loose the useful convention "[] for arrays and {} for strings". best regards Andreas
