In fact I can see YOU commenting that it should not be enabled by default! But that was 2007 - I see no agreement that it should be later ?
mysqlnd needs to be built-in statically.
I will be opening a bug - if only to flag the need for a switch to disable it if it's not required.
We have that. --disable-mysqlnd. - Steph
