Captain Kirk blasted away the split infinitive rule when he decided "to boldly go" where no man had gone before. The rule was actually outdated years before Star Trek. You can read all about it at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Split_infinitive As far as I am concerned, Marcus' split infinitive version of that sentence sounds less awkward.
