The PHP_SHLIB_SUFFIX_NAMES macro is very simplistic in setting the SHLIB_SUFFIX_NAME shared lib file extension. In comparison, the AC_LIBTOOL_SYS_DYNAMIC_LINKER macro in build/libtool.m4 is more finegrained, in particular in differentiating between HP-UX Itanium and HP-UX PA RISC. The base problem was reported for the OCI8 extension in http://pecl.php.net/bugs/bug.php?id=15016 An untested patch for acinclude.m4 is:
