This was indeed an oversight. I've reopened the bug and attached a
primitive (not really tested) patch to it. For the final solution I have
to discuss with Andrey, who is on vacation. Should be done well in time
for PHP 5.3.23 and 5.4.13 as well as 5.5.0.
