On the download page at www.php.net, under the heading
"Binaries for other systems", you write
We do not distribute UNIX/Linux binaries. Most Linux distributions
come with PHP these days, so if you do not want to compile your own,
go to your distribution's download site. Binaries available on
external servers:
It is not clear to me whether your initial statement indicates only
exactly what it says, or *also* that you wouldn't have a link from
this download page to an external server with a UNIX binary.
I am one of the volunteers at SGI who assists with the Freeware
Project <URL:http://freeware.sgi.com>, which provides
open-source
software packages with binaries in SGI's "inst" format. I have been
building PHP since the 3.0.16 release, and providing it there. The
current PHP version available there is 4.0.6 *with* the security
patches. We have a 3-month update cycle for this website, as the
update coincides with our quarterly IRIX maintenance release.
Would it be possible to have a link under "Binaries for other systems"
to our Freeware build of PHP? The link would be to
<URL:http://freeware.sgi.com/index-by-alpha.html#php>
if you are willing to make it. The text description would best be
"SGI IRIX 6.5.x".
I have downloaded the 4.2.0 release, and hope to have it (or a
successor) built and ready for the August 2002 freeware release.
I appreciate your consideration.
thanks,
