php question

Hi, I am a rookie with webservers, I just had setup my own server. But I've got a few problems regarding php. I am using a winxp system to run it on. Apache, perl, mysql are already working. I don't know whats wrong with my php, because with some scripts its working fine and with others it just won't work! For instance, for testing the mysql database, I used the script; phpMyadmin. The script works fine, and also <? phpinfo(); ?> works fine too. But for a test I tried the webportal PHP-nuke, and I got hundreds of errors. I am not a rookie with php progamming, so I've done nothing wrong there.
