form processing problem

Being extremely new to programming I have encountered a problem I hope you guys can help me with!
I am running XP home with Apache 2.0.35 and PHP4.2 and have downloaded an example that contains a
simple form. However when I submit a form I get the result page without the parameters.
What is it that I am missing that should pass the parameters from the initial page to the results
page?
I have looked at several FAQ pages and installation guides and it's driving me mad!
Regular php works, even a slideshow i created, so it just seems to be form processing.
I would appreciate any advice you can offer. Do you need any more info?
