Subject: PHP Bugreport
Hi!
I want to tell you about some bugs in PHP (I am using 4.2.0 under Linux ... and Windows version
also).
The first bug (or a feature?) is connected with memory handling. The script I am currently
developing (mp3 streaming server, attached to the letter) uses plenty of memory and (that is the
feature!) it is not freed when I unset() the variables. It is still a puzzle for me what exactly
uses so much memory :) However, the memory is freed when I exit; the script, but not with apache2 :\
The memory is not freed at all (even if the script exits) under Linux version of apache2.
My guess is that the problems are connected with sockets_select().
Anoter bug is not exactly a bug in PHP. It is a bug in PHP Manual. The article about unset() says:
"If a globalized variable is unset() inside of a function, only the local variable is
destroyed. The variable in the calling environment will retain the same value as before unset() was
called." It is != true! The function inside my script destroys the globalized variable, you can
easily find it in my script's source (lines 244-246).
I hope to hear your opinion on my problems soon.
Ps. Thank you for developing the best hypertext preprocessor ;)
