Thanks for the follow up. Rasmus corrected the problems. It's stange, that it was unable to work that way, because Apache starts a new request AFAIK for Rewrites and ErrorDocuments, so it should consider the default document... But it's now hard coded inside the .htaccess and README.mirror files.
