Thanks guys, however while i have still not been able to patch upgrade to
4.2.2, i believe Gabor's suggestion to use the patch command is probably what i
am looking for. Thanks for your suggestions however Stig, i appreciate the
feedback, and had actually looked at that document already, but as Gabor says,
that documents the procedure to "install" from scratch a new version of PHP,
while i just want to "upgrade" to 4.2.2 from 4.2.1 with the patch i downloaded
at pnp.net.
The patch is a diff file and therefore requires running the patch command
against the original source file. This is where i am stuck as i did not
originally install the product, and i am trying to find this "source file" that
you mentioned Gabor. Have either of you performed this patch upgrade I am
attempting. If so, is it possible you could tell me what the name of this
source file is? It would make life a lot easier for me. The following is a
listing of all the files in my php-4.1.2 directory :-

I'm sorry to be so troublesome, I really feel that this procedure is just made
a lot harder than it should be because of the lack of even a simple README file
with the patch.
Thanks again for all your time and patience
