Hi
I want to teach myself php and I know html. I have a microsoft IIS 4 server
on my pc, and have it running on windows 98. Is PWS4 the same as IIS4? I
need to learn how to use it because I am working for a company that has a
virtual hosting account and we will be hosting our own clients websites.
They will expect me to send up php database controls to the remote server.
I have downloaded the manual, read it, and looked all over your website, but
nowwhere do you say which files to download - I am totally confused because
you do not point people to a simple download option for my beginner level.
I am not familiar with your file name endings, so do not know which one to
download, and whats the difference between each of these options you
display:
Complete Source Code
PHP 4.2.2 (tar.bz2) [2,654Kb] - 22 July 2002
PHP 4.2.2 (tar.gz) [3,319Kb] - 22 July 2002 I have decided to take pot luck
and download this one.
Patches to latest version
PHP 4.2.0 to 4.2.2 patch [313Kb] - 22 July 2002
This unified diff will enable you to update your local PHP source to the
latest version from 4.2.0.
PHP 4.2.1 to 4.2.2 patch [52Kb] - 22 July 2002
This unified diff will enable you to update your local PHP source to the
latest version from 4.2.1.
Windows Binaries
All Windows binaries can be used on Windows 95/98/Me and on Windows
NT/2000/XP.
PHP 4.2.2 zip package [5,275Kb] - 22 July 2002
(CGI binary plus server API versions for Apache, Apache2 (experimental),
ISAPI, NSAPI, Servlet and Pi3Web. MySQL support built-in, many extensions
included, packaged as zip)
PHP 4.2.2 installer [913Kb]- 22 July 2002
(CGI only, MySQL support built-in, packaged as Windows installer to install
and configure PHP, and automatically configure IIS, PWS and Xitami, with
manual configuration for other servers. N.B. no external extensions
included)
-------------
So What about windows binaries. Should I be downloading any of these-
instead of the complete source code, especially the 5 meg version. what do I
want binaries for? and do I need to download anything else? what do the
file ending names mean? tar bz and gz?
Many thanks
