php 4.2.3: question

Hello,
ive just upgraded to PHP 4.2.3 and now when i submit forms and retrieve
variables i get undefined errors.
print("<input type=hidden name=VarName value=$VarName>");
i get the error message
Notice: Undefined variable: VarName in D:\page2.php on line 45
this worked fine on PHP 4.1.2
any help would be very useful!
