I couldn't find any email addresses for the developers so I assume this will find its way to the right people... I run IIS 5 on Win2k & also have Apache installed but due to the .ini file differences I cant get php to work on both simultaneously also my Apache skills are less-than-desireable. I have been working with some mysql, perl & php apps for about 6 months because I admin an ISP and any of the Windows &*%^8 costs a fortune and is usually lacking in functionality.I have had problems getting a great many php apps to run under IIS with the .exe & when I did succeed they were slow at best.I recently designed my 17-yr old daughter a website & found a need to setup a small chatroom for them, the perl chats worked but they lacked functionality & appeal.I found MyPhpChat on sourceforge & it looked perfect for my situation so I proceeded to d/l & install it.Boy was I disappointed when it errored out just opening the config page, but I am a patient & persistent individual so I came to the site & d/l'd the latest CVS with the php-cgi.exe & after some manual config got it to fire up. Boys I wanna tell ya that I was nothing less than awed by the fact that a) the chat app fired right up without any major overhaul of code & b)the damn thing was flying right along like perl code.I also run Squrirrelmail for another domain interfaced to Mercury Mail & just for giggles I checked it out & it too was running about 200x faster than it did with the prev. version. In short I want to thank the guys working on the Win32 port of this software because they are making great improvements in performance & interoperability & I know that *nix guys don't much care for M$ & that makes their achievements that much more impressive. I am starting to search for more php replacements for sw I currently run now that I can actually run most of it efficiently. I only have one area that I see needs to be addressed for IIS servers & that would be native support for http authentication via IIS like the apache auth support that's already built in because a lot of sw in php wants http authentication, currently if an app wants authentication I have to make sure it supports either it own internal auth or external e.g. mysql, sql or an access db, I have read of people making it work but I am not a programmer so I dare not try the mods. Again, thank you for the newly opened doors.. Maurice Lovelady,M.C.S.E.
