Hi, I just wanted to point out some inconsistencies in the online PHP
manual and the 4.2.3 source tarball I downloaded yesterday.
I'm sure it's quite a job trying to keep the documentation up to date,
so I hope this helps.
Here's what I've found so far:
1. The instructions on this page:
http://www.php.net/manual/en/zend.build.php
....do not work. Specifically, after step 5, the user is told to run a
"php" executable in the current directory, but following the build
procedure exactly as specified creates no such executable, anywhere
within the PHP source tree. I also couldn't find "php" installed
anywhere in my path (after doing a "make install")
I had to copy the automatically-generated (by ext_skel) new module's
..php file into my document root, and look at it in a browser, in order
to run it.
I used no special options in running the ./configure script, only
"--with-apxs" and "--enable-my_module".
If my directory layout options for compiling Apache could have had any
effect on the success of the manual's instructions, I can't imagine why,
but since I doubt many configure Apache without changing the layout, I
think this issue should be mentioned in the PHP manual.
2. Example 28-1 on this page:
http://www.php.net/manual/en/zend.creating.php
.....does not match the example .c files automatically generated by the
ext_skel script. There are several differences such as "ZEND_FE" on the
web page being changed to "PHP_FE" in the .c file.
This one's no big deal; the generated .c file compiled and worked just
fine... but it would be nice if the manual matched the current codebase.
