Natalie,
I just noticed this email thread and thought I should comment.
I assure you that PHP.net and the PHP developers would never send spam
email to anyone, especially the users on any of our mailing lists. We
don't sell "#1 male manhood enlargers".
PHP is a computer programming language, and all our email lists are
opt-in with email confirmation. Our mailing list discussions center
around the PHP programming language. We do not sell or disclose our
list member addresses to third parties.
Some people's email addresses appear on our website, mostly in the
comments section of our online manual (http://www.php.net/manual).
Addresses that are listed there were provided by the users themselves.
Unfortunately, some spammers use "site-scrapping" software to harvest as
many email addresses as they can find listed on a particular website.
Preventing this is beyond our control. If your email address appears on
our website, I suspect this is what happened.
You also mention that the spam contained a link to our website. This is
also beyond our control -- spammers can, and do, put anything they want
inside their email. I can assure you, however, that there is no page on
our site that will subscribe or unsubscribe you to any mailing lists,
other than those that we run ourselves that deal with the PHP
programming language.
If you can forward me a copy of the original spam that contains the
link, I can investigate further. Please send a copy that includes *all*
the email headers (the easiest way to do this is to "forward email as
attachment").
