It seems to me that one ISP gathered all the other ISPs of Australia and started bitching about this and at two of them came out with a slightly different email. All of course in favour of fair play.... As you can see their approach is exactly the same (google rank). I say you leave it like it was and see how many more will complain about it. Also the maintainer of au2 should have a word in this. Maybe their company has merged or is going to merge with Web Hosting Australia and they prefer to show this name (or maybe just change the name). That was the case with our company that was renamed to ACE-Hellas but in the papers it is still with the old name (American Computers & Engineers). Was this posted somewhere and people are jumping on a bandwagon? A simple "please correct the name" would have sufficed. It has been corrected and it will trickle out to all the mirrors in the next couple of hours. And no, we will not remove the company names. We ask a lot of our mirror sites and will likely be asking more over the next couple of months in terms of helping us distribute the load of the php.net infrastructure. And PHP is not non-commercial software in the sense that you are implying. PHP is very much aimed at commercial environments along with any and all other web-oriented entities. We want companies to use PHP to make lots of money as much as we want non-commercial organizations to use PHP to solve their problems. -Rasmus On Mon, 2 Jun 2003, Deus Ex Machina wrote: > > hi > > can you please explain why you allow your mirror sites to rig > search engines ranking by hosting a php mirror? > > Ilisys are abusing the free software spirit and stacking links > to themselves with key words to artificially boost their search engine > rankings. > > specifically Ilisys are known as "Ilysis dedicated hosting" on the htdig mirror > and "web hosting australia" on the php mirror. so what is Ilysis' real name? > well the real name is "Ilysis pty ltd". they do not trade under any other name. > > "web hosting australia" is the number one ranking keyword search for australian > web hosting companies in google. google uses the keywords in links pointing back > to you from popular sites to determine ranking for search words. > > Ilysis a commercial entity derives a major commercial advantage by stacking > the links back to themselves with the words "web hosting australia". > > PHP.net is thus being abused by Ilysis to the detriment of every other > web hosting company in australia. > > a quick look through the other php mirrors shows that no one else is > involved in such a scam.
