I think we could do the following to fix the spam issue:
-- obfusicate further EVERY email that is public and not a list into a
hash.
-- to get the real email, you would need to click the hash and it will take
you to a page on master.php.net where you would be required to type in a
short phrase from an image.
This could be done with minimal hassle every time... And by using a crypted
hash, we wouldn't even have to worry about doing a db lookup to get it back
- we can just decrypt it if the letters and numbers typed are good.
This won't prevent the fact that we're still going to get a bunch of
spam.... But it will improve the fact that I doubt anyone else will crawl
our sites for spam addresses.
Sounds good if someone implements it. Note that we 'collect' emails on mailing lists [+news server], on bug reports and in user note postings. I guess this will only help for the web interface of the news server and the other stuff.
