#Response To Oluoch's Article By KSDA - 20th July 2003
The Kenya Socialist Democratic Alliance (KSDA) takes this opportunity to congratulate Mr. Jared
Oluoch, a young Kenyan student of Information Technology and self declared "budding
commentator" for his recent attempt to analyze Socialism and Capitalism and the implications of
the two ideologies to “The Kenya we want”. Mr. Oluoch's piece was definitely well composed
while it also posed good challenges in the field of public debate. From our view, the piece
represented the growing interest of Kenyans (especially the youth) in open discussions about the
most suitable political ideology that can solve the deep crisis that has been facing Kenya for the
last four decades.

#Of KCA Congress, Socialism, Capitalism and their implications to the
Kenya we want By Jared Valentine Oluoch - 17th July 2003
Although this piece was supposed to give a critical analysis to the Kenya Community Abroad‘s
annual conference, it deviates and throws some light on socialism Vis a vis capitalism, and their
implications on the Kenya we want. The reason is that my request for the official text of the KCA
Congress has gone unanswered, and the information posted to KCA website only gives a summary of
speeches by invited guests to the same.
In this analysis, i will attempt to respond to pertinent issues raised in KSDA‘S website by an
exiled former Kenyan political prisoner, indirectly though.

#Al Barakat: The Untold Story - 17th July 2003 By Onyango Oloo
Cab drivers can be mobile encyclopedias and most of the ones I have encountered are very mentally
agile. This last Sunday I found out more about an African business empire while ensconced in the
back seat of a taxi moving between the Runnymede/Bloor and the Queensway/Windmere in Toronto’s
west end.
The driver was a young Somali looking man. I say Somali looking because I have learned to my cost,
never to jump to conclusions about where people were from based on how they looked. I almost got
thrown out of a taxi several years ago when I gleefully fingered my hired chauffeur as an Ethiopian.
I only found that I was talking to an irate, thoroughly
insulted Eritrean when the vehicle screeched to a halt as the offended driver demanded, “What did
you call me?!”
