Hi Simon!
I have been notified of a rather strange problem with my mirror, nz.php.net. When clicking a download link using Internet Explorer, tar.gz packages come out as tar.tar in the Save As dialog box. Using Mozilla under Windows the links work fine. Under Linux, I tested Mozilla, Galeon and Lynx and they all gave correct tar.gz filenames also. As far as I can tell this is not affecting any other php.net mirrors. My mirror is running PHP 4.2.3 and Apache 1.3.27. "AddEncoding" is disabled in the Apache config to prevent gz files being decompressed by IE. The server is sending Content-Type: application/x-gzip with the file. This occurs when downloading via the web site at http://nz.php.net/get/php-4.3.2.tar.gz/from/a/mirror and directly from http://nz.php.net/distributions/php-4.3.2.tar.gz Any ideas?
I have experienced this problem before and the solution was to tell users that they need to associate somet program with the extension in question locally on their OS. Then the proper extension was given when files were downloaded. This is not a solution here though, but was a perfect solution on an intranet. Probably there is a better solution... Goba
