Hi!
There are two places where pregenerating data on the rsync server will help significantly in the speed of the PHP.net site.
First of all the events listing which appears on the frontpage is very much static (generated from a CVS file on every request). But that CVS file is generated on the rsync server, and is not allowed to change locally.
Another field to pregenerate is the downloadable manuals informations (file names, sizes, last modification dates), which are now generated per request on the doc download page. This takes a whole lot stat calls to get information for all the files, and stat for missing files (empty table cells on the page) too.
Any objections against pregenerating the two for rsyncing instead of generating them per request?
