Hi Marc! First of all, Patrick Lodder said that we should modify the nl2.php.net contact to mirror (at) nedlinux (dot) nl, so I have modified it.
Nice to see you guys are still working so hard on the PHP website! Great effort if I see how many mails pass by the mailinglist every day.
There is still a lot work to do :)
Great job that you're checking all the mirror setups an mailing the maintainers because of some changes in the configuration!
Trying to keep the same service on all sites. As we redirect users to mirror sites automatically in many cases (URL shortcuts, download, search), we need to keep the same service on all 100+ mirror sites.
Tonight I walked through our configuration and updated all the settings with your new advised configuration ones. I also found some old htdig work which I removed. So everything is fresh and clean again ;-)
Yep, we dropped htdig support.
One question. Can I do you guys a pleasure by setting up SQLite Support or is it better to wait to when it's fully implemented in the website with search support and so? Love to hear this from you. If so I will make the proper adjustments.
There are code using SQLite already. As it is a file based database engine, you only need to bother yourself with it once, when you set it up initially. Whenever we add a new database to the site, it will be distributed automatically to all mirror sites with rsync, and will be used right away, without any mirror maintainer intervention. So anytime you will set up SQLite, your mirror will start to utilize it. Currently we use it to reduce stat() calls when checking for files as a URL shortcut or a quick function lookup is resolved.
And One suggestion. Maybe it's nice to make some proper adjustments to the mirroring page info at: http://www.php.net/mirroring.php so that they are right for the consumption nowaydays. This part: ---------- and be prepared for some reasonably significant bandwidth usage (a reasonable estimate as of 2/2002 is 150MB/day). The PHP website *requires PHP 4.3.x* with the settings outlined below <http://www.php.net/mirroring.php#settings>. The size of the full website is approximately 3/4 gigabytes. The Complete PHP Website with all languages is now 969 Megabytes in size. And obtaining 660MB in bandwidth usage a day. I think it should be worth to change them on the mirror info so new mirrors candidates can see that the size of the website has significantly dropped but the bandwidth is strongly increased.
I actually don't own a public PHP mirror, and have no details on the main site, so I was unable to update the data. But it seems both numbers increased. 3/4 above means 0.75 actually, not "around 3 or 4 gigabytes", so I'll update the text to reflect the one gigabyte size :) I have also asked maintainers on this list to provide their bandwidth data, but a few replied so far (1-2), and I am not sure that those are good for a "usual mirror site". Eg. I guess nl.php.net need more bandwidth then nl2, while there are some small countries, where not much bandwidth is consumed on mirrors... Goba
