Purpose: A suggestion pertaining to the usability of the online PHP manual
as a function reference.
Preamble: Often, a PHP developer will need to access the online PHP manual
in order to verify the order and nature of function parameters, and perhaps
for no other reason. A Google search, for example, will yield the function
definition page as desired.
Suggestion: If the function prototype is used as either the page title or
the page description, there will be no need to open the manual to see the
function (it will show up in the search results). This has many benefits;
first and foremost, it will eliminate the need to open another web site
(speed issue esp. for dial-up connections). Moreover, it will reduce traffic
to the PHP manual and thus server load (I do not know if this is an issue or
not). Lastly, this will result in a vast saving in clicks, keeping all
coders happy and productive.
For example, change the page title to:
PHP mixed str_replace ( mixed search, mixed replace, mixed subject [, int
&count])
rather than the current:
PHP: str_replace - Manual
I hope this missive is of value,
