I signed up for the php mailing list, and, within 10 minutes of signing up
and submitting an inquiry for a php install problem I am trying to resolve,
I got 33 emails in my mailbox, ALL INFECTED WITH VIRUS FILES!!!!!
I also received 15 other emails from places like 'funpages' and 3 from
countries that I didn't even know existed.
Please contact those "people" and let them know that their entire list is
apparently compromised.
Also, if you can tell me where I could get some legitimate help with a php5
install for development with xml/xsl, I would greatly appreciate it.
The php-install / php-general lists are the right place to ask support questions. We are an open project, and so our mailing lists are open (and openly archived). We cannot guarantee, that there are no spammers subscribed to our lists. If you can identify the evil subscriber, who is on the list and sends out virus mail to you, then we can remove that. However it can happen that some of the subscribers are infected and since they received your request, the virus on their machines sent you some copies of itself.
