My name is Jonas Nimmo and I am yet another PHP developer. My question relates more to geography than PHP and that is: Why are there no conferences, meetings or the like set up and run here in Australia. We have a reasonable community of developers over here who I'm sure would be more than willing to turn out for these events. We have a very limited supply of PHP knowledge over here...By that I mean that our knowledge of PHP is based only on what is mainly available for free online. I'm sure that if something were organised, the response from Australians would be overwhelming, not to mention the extra support PHP will pick up along the way.I am just back from Australia. I go every year and give a lengthy PHP tutorial at linux.conf.au. There are also PHP user groups all over Australia. I am not sure where you are, but in Sydney and Melbourne they meet on the first Thursday of every month. As far as conferences go, that's something local demand will have to drive. php.net as a group don't organize conferences. The best conferences tend to happen when motivated individuals decide to create one. linux.conf.au was is put on by the Australian Linux User group and is a lot of fun every year. If the PHP user groups in Australia got together I am sure you could put together a conference as well. You need to find a small group of people willing to put in a lot of work on it though. -Rasmus
