Hi there,
Currently, when I access http://www.php.net/mysql_connect/ from Germany, I get redirected to http://de3.php.net/mysql_connect/ (or de, de1, de2...). While the benefits of local mirroring and round robin load balancing are absolutely crystal to me, I would like to suggest doing this exclusively on an _IP address level_, so that it's transparent to the visitor and so that the actual URL WON'T change.
The changed URLs might cause confusion when someone e.g. copies and pastes the URL and emails it to another person: "Oh, but this is the GERMAN PHP site?!?" Even if the URL automatically changes over to whatever mirror is closest to the other person, I still don't think it's necessary to have the URL change at all.
A small issue perhaps, but Getting It Right(TM) about many small issues is what makes a big project shine.
Thanks and regards,
Jens Ropers
