Great, I'm all for a redesign like that.

Yes, you are right. But how many PHP related books are released a year? Are they worse then this one? Or why is this standing out? Why don't we announce every new book? What should I tell to the next ten publishers who will cite this annuncement that we should announce their book? I thought about making the php.net homepage more informational, giving you better directions to download the latest versions, direct you to the support options, etc. We have said that filling up the homepage with event announcements only is not an ideal situation. Annonuncing books too is not solving the issue. We actually discussed removing the books page from php.net, since there are so many books, and noone is taking care of updating that page and removing stone age items (this is why the scripts page was removed earlier). It would be best to couple the php.net homepage refreshement with a CSS based layout cleanup (which is long overdue). Many of the php.net pages rely on a CSS based layout now already. It is certainly not our practice (and is not going to be it) to inform users of any new book releases.
