a) if you have a 640x480 screen res, there is no whitespace
b) if you have a 1024x768 or bigger screen res, the human eye has trouble
tracking lines of text that wide. The white space condenses the text,
and makes it easier on the eyes (that's why newspapers have columns).
c) there might be a side bar of stuff in there someday. :)
