Hi, I'm a PHP newbie that needed a password protect for a file download, through the efforts of Brandon Phillips from http://www.WebShowHost.com/ , and one of my Technical Advisors, Ken Cotterill, http://ken.me.com.au/ , and with my putting it into an XHTML 1.1 home, we came up with this. This is a simple generic password PHP that protects a file download. The file extension, (ie: .php), can depend on the version of PHP at the server, but usually will be .php, (php3, or phtml, may still be used for php version 3 or earlier, your network administrator will be able to inform you of this). Instructions are embedded in the attached generic.php for making it functional. It will probably work in the document root, (for testing purposes only), remember you've hard-coded the password in this file. The files you are securing should definitely be outside the root. I hope this is helpful. John C. Fish Technical Director AWD&D http://www.accessworlddd.com/ johnfish1953@hotmail.com
