Hi,
The Japanese version of the manual includes "/sheet.css", which must
contain hard-coded non-japanese fonts.
IE5.5 is intelligent and overrides the font. Netscape 4.x shows boxes :-(.
If I switch off style sheets in Netscape the Japanese appears.
Solution is to have a local version of the style sheet (probably you want
one for each language). Or not specify any font in the site-wide style
sheet (but designers always glare at me when I suggest that ;-).
