Greetings,
I am not quite sure how to go about this, so I have decided to start by contacting the webmaster of
the PHP.net site. I am in the middle of developing an online tool that will check the PHP-version
dependency of PHP scripts... Basically a an online tool that will read through your code, chew out
function names, and compare the function name to when that function was added to PHP. The highest
PHP-version value is saved, and returned. So the output could be that "your code requires
version 4.0.4 of PHP, here is why..." and it would list the "red flagged" functions
that it found which have only just recently been added to PHP. This is handy for people developing
freeware CGI scripts, as it will allow them to create scripts that are better supported by older
versions of PHP, but it will also allow them to post a conclusive requirement for the PHP-version
needed to run their script...
Writing the tool is the easy part, what I lack is the database of function names, and the version of
PHP that they were introduced in. I noticed that each function description page on the PHP.net site
has this information for both php3 and php4... I was wondering if it would be possible for someone
to take a few minutes, and create a simple query to produce a text file which contains the function
name, php3 version and php4 version that it was introduced in; current for PHP4.0.6. The actual
format of the text file is irrelevant, as long as it is consistent I will be able to reformat it
easily for use within my own application...
So essentially I'm asking for a favour, please pass this around until it has reached the hands
of someone that might be able to help me, as any help gathering this information would be much
appreciated.
Thanks,
-Dave Crawford
