I posted a message to the annotated manual in the round() entry. I would like to have it removed please. A copy of the message has been included below. I have been told it is pugnacious (which I disagree with) and assuming to speak for all Americans (which I can kind of see, but I still don't think so). In addition, I found the answer on my own after several hours of searching with Google (just had to find the "right" search phrase :). I don't care about the 1 email that I received, but I don't need to have my question answered any more. Also, it would be a waste of bandwidth to have my post go out every time someone requested the manual entry on the round() function. Which leads me to another question, is the annotated manual a place to ask questions? Is there a more appropriate place? adTHANKSvance, Kenneth Love -------------------------------------------------------- klove@oktax.state.ok.us 11-Feb-2002 09:36
js5@sanger.ac.uk 17-Jan-2002 11:17 This isn't a bug. Rounding of "halves" is usally done to the even number. This means that on average half of the "halves" are rounded up and half of the "halves" are rounded down. So that any "average" calculated should not be affected by the rounding. Is this a non-USA thing or something?
I've never heard of this method of rounding (and I've taken 24+ hours of math courses including Statistical Analysis and Engineering Math I). I've always been taught that .5 rounds to the next highest integer of abs(n), where n can be any number positive or negative. Just curious, Kenneth Love
