If you get this error message: "Notice: iconv(): Detected an illegal character in input string in file.php on line x", and your text or database is likely to contain text copied from Microsoft Word documents, it's very likely that the error is because of the evil 0x96 "long dash" character. MS Word as default converts all double hyphens into this illegal character. The solution is either to convert 0x96 (dash) into the regular 0x2d (hyphen/minus), or to append the //TRANSLIT or //IGNORE parameters (se above). ---- Manual Page -- http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.iconv.php Edit -- http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php?action=edit+59717 Delete: added to the manual -- http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php?action=delete+59717&report=yes&reason=added+to+the+manual Delete: bad code -- http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php?action=delete+59717&report=yes&reason=bad+code Delete: spam -- http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php?action=delete+59717&report=yes&reason=spam Delete: useless -- http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php?action=delete+59717&report=yes&reason=useless Delete: non-english -- http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php?action=delete+59717&report=yes&reason=non-english Delete: already in docs -- http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php?action=delete+59717&report=yes&reason=already+in+docs Delete: other reasons -- http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php?action=delete+59717&report=yes Reject -- http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php?action=reject+59717&report=yes Search -- http://master.php.net/manage/user-notes.php
