I couldnt get the function by sc1n at yahoo dot com to work, so I modded it minorly to this:

{
if($file != "." && $file != "..")
{
$absolute_file = $start_directory . $file;

}
}
}

{
return FALSE;
}
return $tree;
}
The @-sign is just for suppressing warnings.
