If your PHP script is used in a <IMG SRC="..."> tag, you may want to use
the following snippet in cases where you do not want to show an
image at all (e.g. when no image found, or an error condition occurred):

// no image found, output a 1 pixel transparent GIF
header('Content-type: image/gif');
$shim = '47494638396101000100800000ffffff00000021f9040114'
.'0000002c00000000010001000002024401003b';
print pack('H*', $shim);
?>
It saves you loading external image files, generating complex error images, etc.
