Note that there is a strange behaviour when creating nested associative arrays:
Creating a 6 level deep associative array this way succeeds:
$a = array();
$a[1] = array();
$a[1][1] = array();
$a[1][1][1] = array();
$a[1][1][1][1] = array();
$a[1][1][1][1][1] = array();
var_dump($a);
This way the 2. level array is empty:
$b = array();
b1 = $b[1] = array();
$b2 = $b1[1] = array();
$b2[1] = array();
$b3 = $b2[1] = array();
$b3[1] = array();
var_dump($b);
