Note Submitter: baius @ msn dot com ---- History first, questions at end. I have Windows SBS 2003 running on my computer. IIS6.0 works, as I have a functioning website (www.lifes.me.uk). I am competent with computers, but am not a genius, so when I heard it was "easy" to add a PHPBB2.0 forum to my site, I thought I'd give it a shot. I firstly installed PHP5 and the newest MySQL, as advised on phpbb.com. I then put the phpbb files on the correct part of my website (i.e. /forum) and then tried to install. Didn't work. I also found MySQL to be intimidating. I heard that MsSQL was more user friendly, so... I uninstalled MySQL and put MsSQL 2005 (not express) on, but read that it wouldn't work with PHP 5, so I also uninstalled 5 and put PHP 4.3 on. PHP still seems to work with IIS as the "test.php" (etc) files seem to work. I enabled mssql_connect, following forum based instructions, and then crossed my fingers. Well, I obviously wasn't crossing enough... I went to the install page of the phpbb forum, and entered my details, but after clicking install, I was unsuccesful. (I have tried so many things, and got so many error messages, that I can't remember them all, but one was 'sa' isn't recognised as a valid username, etc.) Firstly, then, do "you" (all) think I should reinstall the Server and start again (or am I nearly there)? I.e., would it now be too clogged up with exisiting SW like normal XP distro's after 2 months? Secondly, and I suppose this depends on the answer to the first, can "you" reccommend any course of action I can take so as to get my forum up and running? (Note: I would ideally like IIS6 + MsSQL2005 + PHP5 + PHPBB2, but would settle for any match of programs/installations that got my forum going (as long as it runs on Win SBS 2003).) Sorry this is such a confused bundle of information. I have been struggling with this for months, and don't really know what to write here. Any help appreciated.
