Ok, so I don't know what idiot made the executive decision not to bundle mysql support with
php5 by default, but what used to be a simple point and click process on windows is now one of the
most un-neccessary install processes ever. I realize that "Unix users, at least the ones who
know what they are doing, tend to always build PHP against their system's libmyqlclient library
simply by adding the --with-mysql=/usr option when building PHP.", but for many windows users,
especially those running small-time installations, they enjoyed the point-n-click ease of having it
all installed by default. I think php is really alienating its install base of small-scale users who
don't have a dedicated IT department to figure out how to configure their servers. Many people
expect to install something and it just work (or continue to work if you had an existing install). I
hope that someone will seriously reconsider this decision in the future.
