The german translation of the example is wrong. $result would be an empty array.
It should be like this instead:
<?php
$Stadt = 'Frankfurt am Main';
$Bundesland = 'Hessen';
$Veranstaltung = 'Ambiente';
$location_vars = array('Stadt', 'Bundesland');
$result = compact('Veranstaltung', 'nichts_hier', $location_vars);
?>
Which would result in
Array
(
[Veranstaltung] => Ambiente
[Stadt] => Frankfurt am Main
[Bundesland] => Hessen
)
