an important diference between scanddir and readdir is that scandir sorts filenames in the following
order: A,B,C,D,...X,Y,Z, a,b,c,d,...x,y,z
but readdir follows the server file listing which usually seems to a,A,b,B,c,C,d,D,...x,X,y,Y,z,Z
